Welcome back to another episode of "Please Just Listen to Your Doctor," broadcasting live from the IV chairs at CoreRestore Infusions.
Today’s cautionary tale features a couple visiting us from overseas. They found us through word-of-mouth and were eager to sample our IV offerings.
Let's set the stage:
The wife was sensible, grounded, and delightful.
The husband? A towering picture of youth and strength who looked like he probably bench-presses small vehicles for fun.
They wanted the holy grail of IV therapy: NAD+.
The "Spicy Drip" Warning Label
Whenever a patient asks for NAD+, I get excited, but I also have to deliver My Speech™. I walked them through the amazing benefits, but I also made it crystal clear that NAD+ is a bit of a diva.
If you pump it in too fast, your body throws a spectacular tantrum. I explicitly warned them about the risks of a rapid infusion:
Intense, sudden body heat
A racing heart
Flushing (turning into a human tomato)
Mild disorientation and chest tightness
Because of this, NAD+ requires constant supervision and a nice, slow, leisurely drip rate.
The wife nodded, perfectly happy to chill out and take hers over a sensible two hours.
The husband? He literally scoffed. He puffed out his chest, boldly proclaimed that he is "strong" and nothing would happen to him, and insisted we wrap his session up in one hour flat.
We got them hooked up. For the first ten minutes, I played it safe and ran his drip at a snail's pace.
Nothing happened. He was totally fine.
The wife was happy to let us gradually increase her rate. The husband, however, took this initial ten minutes of peace as scientific proof of his invincible biology. He looked at me and insisted we go "full throttle."
Against my better judgment, but knowing a bruised ego was the only cure for this level of hubris, I bumped up the rate.
The Three-Minute Meltdown
It took exactly three to four minutes for his tough-guy facade to completely dissolve.
Ta-da! Suddenly, his face flushed a brilliant, glowing shade of crimson. A layer of panic-sweat broke out across his forehead. He gripped the armrests like he was on a rollercoaster, experiencing that classic mild chest tightness I had warned him about.
When he finally spoke, his booming, confident voice had vanished. It was replaced by a fragile, squeaky little whisper. Very sheepishly, he looked at me and begged me to please turn the dial down. About sixty seconds later, he asked me to just stop it completely so he could remember how to breathe.
I kid you not—his wife looked over from her perfectly comfortable, slow-dripping chair and absolutely lost it. She was cackling at him. It was poetic justice in its purest form.
After a brief time-out to let his heart rate (and his pride) recover, we started him back up on the slow setting. They finished their treatments together over the next hour and a half, and he solemnly promised that the next time he sits in my clinic, he will actually listen to the expert.
The Moral of the Story: NAD+ is an absolute powerhouse of a drip. It offers incredible health benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects, pain mediation, cellular repair and regeneration, and anti-aging properties.
But you have to respect the drip! It must be administered carefully and monitored constantly. If you want the safest possible infusions—overseen by qualified healthcare professionals who will absolutely say "I told you so" when you ignore their advice—come see us at CoreRestore Infusions.
