Working with 2023

 The year has gone it was really good,

We were fortunate to receive money and food

We worked hard and even had time to play

Now is the time for thanks to say!

Remember well, as we go off into 2023,

Treat all your patients and charge them a fee

No one should be able to point a finger,

And tell you that your treatment let the illness linger!

No more favours and friend and relative benefits,

Selfish motives should currently be a hit,

Because no one is going to give a second thought to us

Medico legally they're all ready to throw us under a bus!

Do your job, do it well, speak less to the point and be curt,

Don't give extra advice, nor worry about them being hurt;

It will take them less than a second to turn to another

So, why oh why should we be cannon fodder!

Family first, fitness second, health will come, keep work for last

There is no need to get rich and famous fast

When it all ends, it won't matter how much or where

Its only family and friends that will be there!

Guardians of the city!

With hardly any vehicle movement the road seems empty,
you'll see him standing there with energy aplenty,
he will carefully watch who all come and go,
He will correctly guide you, he'll never say no!

He will bake in the sun for hours on end,
He will return your smile and a helping hand lend,
He will shout at loiterers and drive them away,
He will even punish them if they have nothing to say.

He will make them do sit ups and hold their ears,
He will help an old lady carry her burden without tears;
He will prevent chaos at any cost to keep us safe,
He will melt in the heat and continue to be brave!

He is risking his life and his families too,
Just to make sure it's safe for me and you,
He does his duty with hardly a complaint,
He wears his uniform with pride and constraint.

He is bound by the orders from above he receives,
Don't be too harsh on him if he stops you to check;
He isn't enjoying it any more than you please believe,
But he doesn't have a choice, they're all hands on deck.

He waits in line just like we all do for groceries,
he pays full price and doesn't bargain in misery,
He understands that we all are in this together,
He too misses his father, mother, sister and brother!

Let's give them the respect they deserve so truly,
let's at least smile and greet them when they seem unruly;
Let's remember that even our mood changes with a smile,
we just have more people around us all the while!

They are doing a very lonely job and they're excelling,
They've maintained law and order in times compelling,
They haven't asked us for anything in return but to stay home,
Let's give them a big hand and make sure we don't roam!

A salute to the Mumbai Police, we owe you our thanks,
Perhaps this may never reach your eyes and your ranks;
If somehow you do end up reading this, please know,
This city owes you all gratitude and much more!

The Silver Lining

Remember world war one,we studied it in school
Everyone thought that was it, mankind was doomed;
but we arose from the ashes of the tanks and the guns,
How lucky we were, to get our race up again to run.

We promised it would never happen again, but it did,
One Aryan man decided he needed to be all sordid;
We almost wiped out the world's entire population,
How lucky we were to have our resolve for emancipation.

Just when we thought we were done, out came the pox,
Over 300 million deaths, we were forced to think out of the box;
A vaccine was developed and we could see the light,
How lucky we were to be saved from our plight.

Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV and many more continue to rise,
We sit with our petty differences and consider ourselves wise;
We're constantly under threat from natural disasters too
How lucky are we to be together, me and you!

We take so much for granted, we forget to see,
We're the luckiest damn people, you and me;
We have each other, we have our families, our love,
How lucky are we, to be with our treasure trove!

There are some aged parents who are living alone,
Their only contact with family is a phone;
they too have peace of mind, full control and space,
How lucky are they to have their own place!

There are those with huge families, cousins and all
Who live through each day with people to break the fall;
They may seem crowded, but they have so many that care
How lucky they all are to have feelings to bare!

Then there are those with small families of two
Either themselves or with kids that also number few
A cosy close knit family who protect each other
How lucky they are to have a mother and brother.

We have tech to support us while we are locked in our homes
We have zoom and video calls and friends that in our heart roam;
We have teachers to teach our kids and engage them to learn,
How lucky we are to have each other in times to burn.

Here we all are with seemingly endless time,
To write our feelings our in series of rhyme,
I personally am grateful for things I can see for miles,
How lucky I am for you to read my words and smile!

The days may seem dark and the time creeping slowly
We must stay positive to avoid feeling lonely;
Keep enjoying our time and keep our spirits climbing
Remember every dark cloud has a silver lining!

Reborn

Every once in a while, you read a book that forces you to think differently, to imagine what all is possible, to take the road less traveled, to change drastically for the better and to flip your understanding of the world at large.

'Reborn' by Aarti Asrani is one such gem.

This is an easy to read, simple and effective book which would classify as a self help, self improvement kind of genre and is timed just right since the world seems to be begging for any form of positive energy we can find.

The book is neatly divided in various sections and each section can be either read independently or as a whole. The effect each chapter will have on you is very subjective but if you just remember to accept or 'receive' as she so aptly puts it in many of her chapters, you will get the message loud and clear. In addition to this, if you think you get it but can't implement it, you could always call her for help. Her contact details are on her website www.aartiasrani.com and I personally know for a fact that she will help you through it, not matter how busy she is!

Just a few specific points to touch on to give you a feel of the book:

Feel the vibrations. Make sure you send out the correct vibes in order to receive the correct vibes in return. This has been taught to us from time immemorial. You greet a smile with a smile, no matter what mood you are in.

Be ready to receive, the universe is begging you to take what you ask for, provided you ask well and are ready to receive what is given irrespective of the packaging. It is truly said that the world works in mysterious ways.

Change the way you say NO. Replace it with positive words of refusal! Works like magic!!

Receive openly, without doubt, without thinking about what to give in return, without considering the reasons. If you get a compliment, don't think twice about imbibing it in your conscience!

Break the conditioning spell we all are under. Let go of preconceived notions to open up the possibilities of choice! This was an extremely intelligent chapter in my view!

Because! What a powerful word. I'm not going to write more about it. You have to read that chapter to understand, because... Anything can be right and everything can be wrong is my favourite line in the whole book! Look for it.

Money, everyone's boon or bane is quite well explained too and the reason you choose to have more or spend more and the reason to keep wanting more have never seemed clearer!

Relationships are the next thing she has tackled and you must read this chapter slowly and completely to understand how to be the perfect partner for yourself and others around you.

The reason that this is even here is that all of this plays a part in your well being and health. This has also been tackled well in the chapter on health consciousness. A look at how emotions, all emotions, are just signals from your body asking for more awareness and how ignoring these can lead to health issues is well described and dealt with.

If you are suitable intrigued or impressed with any of the above, it's time to stop reading this and head on over to her website to order yourself a copy. Also available on Amazon as Reborn: by Aarti Asrani. Yes, there are some grammatical errors and some print fallacies, but none of that takes away from the content. For her first book, I think Aarti has done really well. I read through the whole book and I strongly suggest you do too!

6 years and counting

It has been 6 years to the date since I started writing this blog. I would like to think that much has changed.

Of course, most of that can be attributed to the fact that I went from Municipal Hospital to Private Hospital to Private Practice. I, however, do hope that my writing has changed a bit too.

I was reading some of my early posts and almost had the urge to edit them. I didn't. I guess, it is something that should stay the way it is to remind me of what has changed! Enough with the change bit.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the people who have made it possible for me to stay interested in writing this for so long (God knows I tend to get bored with things easily)

Vinita Mulchandani - My best friend, my wife, my biggest reality check, my fashion police, my personal himalaya. She is so many things to me that I would need another 6 years to complete the list. I love you babe!

Toofan Mulchandani - aka Jeehan (Yes, this is the correct order and not the other way round) He will soon become all of the above. As of now, he is just a bundle of joy (no matter how cliched that sounds) He is also the sole inspiration for my other blog 'Taught By My Son"

Samit Malkani - Yes you made it before the rest of my family. Simply because you are almost right up there with the rest of them (and you know it!) If it wasn't for you, I probably would not have been pushed into writing at all. Your blogs are an inspiration (even though I may not be interested in the teachings of the post, the style is great). Read more about it here

The rest of my family - My brother, Gautam, who is my severest critic, who always keeps a check on me and always pretends not to care. My dad, who is surprising everyone with his tech savvy avatar and mom who just loves to read my name anywhere public!

Saanwari Gorwaney Malkani - Yes I wrote your entire name! You have always encouraged me to write on and for that I thank you. You also make sure all of us have some fun which is something we tend to forget with our busy lives. Cheers!

Juhi D - Always will be Juhi D to me! Thanks for believing that I could write for you sometime, even though I have not gotten around to doing it. Coming from you, its a huge morale booster and gives me belief in my writing ability.

Anjum D - Oh God! How I love to fight with you and argue with you. Thanks for reading the post as soon as you get to know about it. You are the most active person when it comes to comments on the blog and I am grateful to you for that. Love your writing too

M.D. - My Meghu Mutter! I know we somehow always miss each others calls but I know you read the blog and enjoy it and you in your own way inspire me! You're a great friend, Thanks!

Sheebs - My rum and coke buddy! How I wish we could have met sooner than we did. Great fun having you around and please keep reading my blog. Can I include Amit in this too since he'd probably not read this anyway until I can somehow get it into a phone call for him!

Bips - You would have been higher mate, but you tend to disappear far too often and I have no clue what you're up to. I would, however, give your reference to anyone who wants to lose weight. I know you read and thanks for that. Cheers!

Nyaani - aka Mental Bua/Aks/Divz/Divya If and when she reads the blog she always has nice things to say. More importantly, I can laugh with you without any reason! Hahahaha

Ok, this is beginning to sound like an oscar speech!

All my other readers! Don't fret because you're at the end. The end is usually the best part. To move to the top, please read, comment, share and care!
